OK, I will admit it… I haven’t run in MONTHS! What is a certified running coach doing NOT running? An even better question is, what is a person who is supposed to start training for her second marathon in July doing NOT running? The truth is, I have a love-hate relationship with running. I love running but hate the necessary evil of stretching and foam rolling that comes along with it. LOL Like just about anything else though, when you don’t do something for an extended period of time, it’s hard to get back into it! So, here I am almost 8 months later and I am gearing up to start running again.
I love how running makes me feel and above all else, how it makes me look. I’m all about health first, but I would be lying to you if I didn’t share that I am a bit vain and running helps me maintain a certain shape and size and it does wonders for my stamina. When I was really heavy into running 2 to 3 years ago, I was probably in the best shape of my life. By the time I ran my first marathon in 2013, I had a much slimmer waistline and great muscle definition because I was running 3 to 4 times a week and strength training twice a week. Contrary to popular belief, strength training needs to happen even if running is your primary source of exercise. But, I’ll get into that in another post.
So, you may be wondering why I went on an 8-month hiatus. The truth is, after dealing with a bone spur and bunion on my right foot back in early 2013, a situation that required surgery, I wasn’t ready to face the same ordeal with my left foot. Yes, I’m walking around with a similar situation on my left foot, albeit not as painful, but annoying enough. I’ve decided to give it the old college try and move forward with my running, though. I have no choice. People are depending on me! I’m pretty sure by the time November rolls around, I will likely have to go under the knife again. But, by that time, I would have accomplished something that only 1% of the world population has accomplished! Hopefully, my doc has enough cortisone to help me get through the pain when it begins to annoy me to no end. Either way, I am determined to get through this and won’t let a little pain (unless it’s injury related) stop me!!!
